Arvada Study City of Arvada, Colorado Employer Outcome Study
Program Overview
The city of Arvada, Colorado implemented the Dorn Companies’ Trauma Release™ Therapy program in 2004 to reduce workers’ compensation costs associated with the treatment of employee work-related musculoskeletal injuries. The treatment program successfully reduced the direct treatment costs of these injuries from an historic cost per claim of $3,793 to $450 per claim, an 88% reduction. In 2005, the city expanded its program to include the PainFree™ early intervention program as a solution to further reduce costs and prevent employee injury, and has effective reduced workers' compensation claims rates.
During the treatment of 32 employees, 18 known potential workers' compensation claims were prevented. Costs of traditional treatment for these claims are estimated at $68,275. Total PainFree™ Program costs were $7,582. This reduction in costs of $60,693 translates into an 800% return on investment. Furthermore, employee survey results show the early intervention program successfully reduced utilization of the city’s health benefits plan and medication usage. 50% of the employees indicated that they would have visited a physician or pain clinic for their condition had the treatment program not been available to them.
